RTO – WHY

The foremost question in everyone’s minds these days is a simple three letter word as the result of a three letter acronym. RTO…why?

The most simple question to the most asinine of concepts and a better way to ask it might be “what problem are we trying to fix?”

Apparently, something which has worked just fine for a period of years now suddenly needs complete upending along with everyone’s lives involved as well.

The truth is, either no one can, or at the very least no one is giving anything close to a reasonable explanation supporting the latest draconian decisions made by organizational leaders to force the masses back into offices – and with increasing mercilessness.

What happened to organizations caring about their people and those employee’s work/life balance?

What happened to making data-driven decisions (Amazon)?

What happened to companies wanting to reduce their environmental impacts?

What happened to being able to answer a simple question? “WHY!?!?!”

When asked this question, some organizational leaders respond with such things as “increased team collaboration” resulting in “increased productivity”. Some emphasize that face time and in-person interactions foster a “better culture” in an organization and that people at a basic level actually want that human interaction at the workplace.

These answers are being given with a straight face to hoards of people who obviously not only don’t want that human interaction, but will have their lives seriously damaged as a result of that forced human interaction. Those answering the question continue repeating on with the nonsense as if the mere act of saying lies enough times makes them truth.

There are a myriad of excuses for RTO being spouted and absolutely zero of them make any sense to anyone with a brain asking the question of why the push for this has become so strong and relentless.

Here we will analyze the increasingly absurd phenomenon of RTO, how it goes completely against all sanity and reason, how it is consistently neither explained nor justified by any measure in reality, the impacts of this to real humans’ lives, and what the underlying causes and real reasons for this nemesis might actually be.

If we can understand the real causes and motivations, we can fight back, and we can stop this madness.
